At this point, everyone is totally bored with the ‘millennium'. Whether you believe, as some do, that this is the first day of the third millennium, or like others that that auspicious day is still 365 days away, or whether you are of the opinion that it's a day just like any other, you still have a future to face.

It really doesn't matter how long that future might be. What matters is how ‘rich' is the time involved. As my sainted Scottish aunt used to tell me, ‘When ye're breathin' yer last, laddie, ye'll no' be thinkin' aboot how lang ye've lived, but aboot how well!" In my heart, I know she's right.

Well, here we stand at the very beginning of a new year, at the very least. Let's not worry whether it's a new decade, century and millennium too. Let's view it simply as being the very first day of the rest of our life. Let us also go gently into that dark night, determined to be the very best we can be. Let's also plan to win!

Planning to win doesn't mean besting everyone else in every way. It means beating our own previous track record. Becoming, every day in every way, better and better! This is not only a substantial benefit for us as individuals, but one that creates bonuses for so many others, either directly or indirectly, in our life. A legacy for posterity.
