Staying in Touch Managing in the Future Tense Time isn't really 'running out' nor is it 'getting short'! The millennium is almost upon us however, and it brings with it fresh perspectives and new realities. The expectation is that there will be change, and because the expectation is there, it will happen. Many of these new realities will focus on the complex relationships that exist between people in the business world. The new age, it is anticipated, will bring 'enlightenment', a clearer sense of accountability and responsibility, and improved ways of interacting. Much of this is desirable, perhaps overdue and certainly of value to all concerned. All change starts inside individuals. It isn't layered on from the outside, nor is it ingested 'wholesale'. It begins as an insight which is nurtured by an emotional flush of hope for benefit, and it's matured through incremental reinforcement. The growth process is both exciting and uncomfortable, and it may or may not survive the rigors of hard practice. What is well proven though, is that unless the process starts from a basis in reality it cannot prosper. We cannot build our secure future on a foundation of illusions, delusions and vague intentions. As leaders and managers, we need to find the 'bed rock' of current reality, for ourselves and for those who we would wish to influence. Just what is the impact of your accumulated perspectives and assumptions about leadership and management? How are you projecting yourself as role model, guide and/or mentor for others within your locus of influence? This could well be the time to discover yourself and to initiate those changes which will increase your impact and success. Take a few minutes to respond to the following critical questions about your leadership / management style. (PDF questionnaire) Once you've completed the questionnaire, you'll need to reflect on the significance of your 'profile'. Review the page on Interpretation, consider the Style descriptors and reflect on the 'ideal' score presented. Awareness is key If you need adjustment in your current Style emphases, Executive Coaching will take you there. Is your current Style being unduly influenced by organizational culture? If so, you=re encouraged to quantify this by responding to the organizational appraisal, and to consider the recommended strategies. Growth is not an option, it's vital for personal and organizational survival. Build your personal and organizational strategy for growth without delay. We can help! ![]()
