Nothing is certain in life. Tornadoes sweep through areas long devoid of a simple breeze. Earthquakes crack open the earth where no known faults exist. Betrayals happen where there are no known faults in character. Equally, wonderful things happen when we least expect them; when we're about to give up hope. Joy even springs from moments of profound sadness.

The best laid plans of mice and men notwithstanding…we rarely know what is to come. And while the uncertainty of it all can be a killer, we do have options. Either we can worry (who me? you say!) – or we can trust.

They say that worry is the interest we pay on a loan which we may not take out. What a waste! Yet how much easier it is to worry than to trust. How much easier to clench our fists and wring our hands than to be open, eager -- and optimistic.

Trust requires us to believe that the universe is a good and friendly place. It allows us to sleep nights and to wake with hope in our hearts. Trust bids us wait in gentle anticipation for whatever lies around the corner. It enables us to greet the future with open hands.

Is the universe a friendly place? I guess it all depends on how you think – and feel – about it.

As I have searched for a life of joyous fulfillment, I've come to appreciate that my world, my universe, is a direct reflection of the way I choose to see it.

If I focus on the uncertainty, I worry myself – and those around me - to death! If approach it as a friend, and trust that even if all is not right at this moment, it eventually will be, then it is - it's life. And the journey is not nearly as painful!

Does trusting come easy? Not for me it hasn't. Is it worth cultivating? Well, ….what do you think?
